Nurse the Hate: Hate the Future

One of my associates sent this photo to me last night.  I would like to go on record as saying I am “very concerned” to “extremely concerned” about the choices made by the United States citizens in placing these people in charge of our nation.  While I knew George W. Bush was incompetent, there was also the feeling that Darth Vadar (i.e. Dick Cheney) and his minions were actually in control.  George was along for the ride while The Empire made money and tried to control The Galaxy.  I did not agree with their choices, especially in Iraq, but at least there was the feeling that they had a realistic plan no matter how diabolical.  Nixon was a thug but he was a competent thug.  Presidents have been good and bad, but they always seemed like they belonged there.  This is an entirely new place we are headed.

I don’t recall any leaders in my lifetime posing for photographs with their trusted advisers in Superman costumes.  When I look at that picture it makes me think that some bad sex things happened, like a discount store version of “Eyes Wide Shut”.  Say what you will about Nixon, but I can’t recall any photos of him with Kissinger in a dress (though they might exist).  It has to be unprecedented in our history that the American population decided “Yep.  That’s the way to go.” looking at that photo.  I did hear a wild rumor from my brother that an image of William Jennings Bryan exists banging a woman from behind on the site of the Capital Building, but that it is only a woodcut.  I also thought I heard about a daguerreotype of James Polk fully erect in a Zeus costume, but that might only be legend.

It is difficult to get your arms around the idea that on Saturday night a comedy television program which has parodied every president since it came on the air in the 1970s did a skit about Trump being so impulsive and thin skinned that he would respond to any trivial slight on the web.  In response to that pretty tame skit, Trump then tweeted how bad the skit was and demonstrated the actual point of the parody.  The incoming President of the United States is concerned about being made fun of on SNL.  Did I just type that?  Why does he still have a phone?  Can’t the woman in the Superman outfit filter this guy so our nation doesn’t look like a bunch of clowns?  He isn’t even president yet and he is utterly terrifying to anyone that even marginally understands the world.  In the last couple of weeks he has shown little understanding of how the government works, international protocol, free speech, or the concept of conflict of interest.  There will be a minimum of 208 weeks of this crew making decisions.  This will be like an AA meeting where we will have to go one day at a time.

I don’t care if you didn’t like Hillary, Bernie, Gary Johnson, Cruz, Kasich or whoever.  The person at the top has to be able to capable of the basic tasks of this job.  This really comes as no surprise.  Our nation made a catastrophic mistake.  There is no spin here.  This is going to be a disaster.  We need to own it.  There is no hiding from it or thinking it will turn out OK if you keep a positive attitude.  This is not going to be OK.

  1. "In the last couple of weeks he has shown little understanding of how the government works..."

There's YOUR problem. If you believe this government "has worked," in your lifetime or mine, you are delusional.

Trump takes a phone call from Taiwan, and people lose their minds.

Obama goes to Cuba and felates Raul Castro, and it's a wonderful thing.

Silly Marxists. No government will save you.

  2. Zoomie, as a truck driver you know more than anyone that people are generally terrible drivers. While it is tempting to ignore the rules of the road and do whatever the hell you want to do, the entire system breaks down if certain codes of conduct are not maintained. There are certain protocols and basic conducts that must be followed for the system of the road or basic government to not only work but not totally break down.

Whereas the initial excitement of having an amateur at a big job like this is novel, I fear the reality. I'm on the United States team and we drafted the wrong QB.

  3. The president of the United States continues to angrily tweet about a bad SNL parody.

I had to write it to see if it looks as crazy as it sounds.

  4. This is why we make beer. It's all going to be okay. I never thought Clinton would lose. Not that she didn't suck and deserve to lose. Proves what I know. But the world is definitely flat!
